Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus and a few of His disciples had gone to the Garden of Gethsemane located on the Mount of Olives, just outside of Jerusalem. While eating together, Jesus spoke to them about the kingdom of God. They asked Him if He were going to restore the kingdom to Israel. In reply, Jesus told His disciples that it was not for them to know the times or dates the Father had set. He did tell them, however, that the Holy Spirit would come to them and that they would receive power to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth. After He had said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.
As Jesus was ascending to heaven, suddenly two angels dressed in white stood beside the disciples and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back the same way you have seen Him go to heaven." 1
Presently, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God the Father (on His throne in heaven.) One day, however, Jesus will return to earth and setup His kingdom. 2 This will be a time when the knowledge of the Lord will cover the whole earth. It will, also, be a time when the earth will be abundantly prosperous and beautiful. And a time of peace; a time not seen since the Garden of Eden. God refers to this time as the time of the new heavens and new earth. 3
