What does it mean when you ask God to speak to you and you don't hear anything?

When we (God's children) pray, God answers our prayers.1  There are times, however, when we're not aware of Him doing so.  He often speaks to our hearts and minds (in His still quiet voice) confirming our requests.  Yet, at times, God seems to be silent.

When we go to God in prayer, we need to be still and allow Him to speak.

Also, we should not go with preconceived ideas as to how God will answer, but, rather, allow Him to reveal to us what His will is.  We should not just try to get Him to do what we want Him to do, but, rather, allow Him to reveal to us what He's going to do and what we need to do.

God also speaks to us through the Bible.  Have you ever noticed that when you read the Bible things just seem to jump out and really speak to your heart?  That's God speaking to you through His Word.

He also speaks to us through circumstances (doors open and doors close.)

Finally, God speaks to us through the wise counsel of other Christians (the Church.)

Look around you and see what's happening in your life.  You might see God's answer to your prayer there.
