Did Jesus claim to be God?  Also, does the Bible say that Jesus is God?

At the burning bush on Mount Sinai, Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is His name?'  Then what shall I tell them?"  In reply, God said to Moses," I am who I am.  This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ' I AM has sent me to you.' " 1

One day, while teaching many Jewish people in the Temple courts in Jerusalem, Jesus said to them, "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing My day; he saw it and was glad."  In reply, the Jews said to Jesus, "You are not yet fifty years old and You have seen Abraham!"  Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born,

I AM !" 2

In saying this, the Jews knew that Jesus was claiming to be God (I AM) and the Bible tells us that the Jews picked up stones to stone Jesus for what He had just said. Why? Because Jesus was claiming to be God (I AM.)

Later on, when Jesus said to the Jews, " I and the Father are one" 4 the Bible tells us "Again the Jews picked up stones to stone Him, but Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many great miracles from the Father.  For which of these do you stone Me?"'  In reply, the Jews said, "We are not stoning you for any of these but for blasphemy, because You, a mere man, claim to be God." 5

It's important to note that Jesus was not claiming to be God the Father.  What He was saying is that He and the Father are in full agreement and equal in every way.

In answer to the question, "Does the Bible say that Jesus is God?"  look what the Bible says about Christ Jesus: "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him." 6
