Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines a gossip as someone who habitually reveals personal, or sensational, facts about another. As to gossip, the Bible tells us that a child of God should not let any unwholesome talk come out of their mouth; only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs that it may benefit those who listen.1 Gossip is out of place for a Christian; or anyone else.2 In fact, the Bible tells us that a gossip should be avoided.3 It also tells us that just as a fire goes out without wood, a quarrel dies down when gossip ceases.4 Bible References: 1 (Ephesians 4:29) 2 (Ephesians 5:4) 3 (Proverbs 20:19) 4 (Proverbs 26:20) |
