The Bible tells us that, at a future date in time, Jesus will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ (Christians who have fallen asleep in death) will rise from the grave.
At that time, both resurrected Christians, and Christians who are still alive, will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. All of this will take place in the time it takes for an eye to blink, or twinkle. This is known as the rapture, or taking away, of the Christian Church.
At the rapture, Christians will receive glorified bodies; bodies which will never more grow old, get sick, or die and be taken to heaven.
Those left upon the earth, however, will go through a time of
great tribulation; a time when God pours out His wrath against wickedness.1
