While exiled on the Isle of Patmos, in the latter part of the 1st century AD, the apostle John received a revelation from God about future events; things which would take place during a time known as the great tribulation or Jacob's trouble.
At that time, over half of the inhabitants of the earth will be killed
by the sword, famine, plague and the wild beasts of the earth. 1 Also, at that time, there will be a great earthquake and every mountain and island will be removed from its place (the whole earth will be shaken.)
It will be a time when great meteors will fall from the sky upon the earth; a time when the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man will hide in caves and among the rocks of the mountains and call out to the mountains and the rocks to fall on them and hide them from the face of God and the wrath of Christ Jesus. 2
It will also be a time when a great multitude (which no one will be able to count) will turn to God through faith in Jesus; this multitude of believers will come from every nation, tribe, people and language. 3 Those who heard the truth of the gospel, and rejected it before the time of tribulation, however, will not be found among the believers who are saved during the tribulation. 4 Just as they will have refused to believe the truth of the gospel of salvation before the time of tribulation, during the tribulation they will continue to refuse to believe the truth of the gospel (they will believe the lie of Satan instead.) Sadly, many, or even most, of those who do turn to God through faith in Christ Jesus during the time of tribulation will be martyred for their faith.
